My work life redesign story
Working as a senior consultant, I found that my work began to dictate my life. I felt stressed, increasingly unhappy, and asking myself 'is this it?'. Having spent years getting a good education and developing a successful career, I found myself wondering what it was all for. I left my job and went backpacking round the world. This gave me the space I needed to realise that my values had changed, to realise that I no longer wanted to be part of the rat race, or to have the lifestyle that goes with it.
Upon returning to the UK, I decided to train as a coach, and haven't looked back since. Using my knowledge of psychology and my coaching skills to help others design their work lives is incredibly rewarding. It's fantastic to see how much happier people can become when they are given the right support and encouragement.

Lu Lu Lime
Yoga Classes and Holistic Therapies. Lu Lu Lime was a dream that sprung one carefree day whilst immersing myself in the cultures of Australia and South East Asia. I used travelling as a springboard to escape the mundane life I carried out at home, where working long hours and burning the candle at both ends resulted in bouts of anxiety and low self esteem.
I was constantly critical of the way I looked and my weight, which resulted in me not eating and pounding the gym until I dropped. I never seemed to be on an even keel and this unbalance was not a healthy state for my mind, body or soul.
Something needed to change, whilst travelling I met a beautiful Canadian friend who directed me to Yoga, at last I felt the void had been filled! I felt empowered both physically and mentally. Truth, purpose, realisation and pure joy were just a few of the benefits I experienced and at this point I knew yoga would continue to be a part of my life.
In the Summer of my return to England I knew that I would ultimately like to share these benefits with others and so I decided to go to India and train to be a Sivananda yoga teacher. This was a crazy and magical experience, but one that allowed me to make my dream a reality and study further to become a reiki and holistic massage therapist.
I feel honoured to be able to teach yoga, it's a constant learning curve, both from my own practice and students.
The dream doesn't stop here. I'm excited about the future of Lu Lu Lime - watch this space for news on our own yoga studio!

My primary reason for joining Business Confident Ladies was to meet other businesses - obvious I guess!I am keen to work with other small businesses, if they are local then that excites me even more! Hi Ladies - I am Rachel Smith, personal life coach for parents who are ready to make positive changes to their working and personal lives. I haven't always been a coach, prior to making the leap, I worked in the public sector for several years working on large transformational programmes. So, I have many, many years of supporting people in the workplace going through change.
My decision to be brave and do something I love happened in 2007, when I returned to work after having my little boy (now 3). Like any new parent returning to work, I was concerned about what it was going be like returning to work and leaving my child for the first time. When I was back in the workplace, I realised almost straight away, that this way of working wasn't for me anymore and if I was going to spend time away from my son, I wanted to do something I loved.
Previously I had considered life coaching and I hadn't had the courage to take it any further. In August 2007, I started my training with the worldwide coaching organisation, The Coaching Academy, and since then I have coached over a 100 people, qualifying in 2009. I thoroughly enjoy coaching and have worked with some amazing clients, all taking their own journey to changing their lives for the better.
Life coaching is one of the most positive experiences that I have and many others have had. Completing my NLP Practitioner in November 2008 was another step towards developing a quality life coaching service.
My niche market are any parents, young or old who are ready to be brave and create a life they love. This could be anything from creating some proper me time in a busy life where other people's needs seem to always come first to achieving a dream, writing that book, starting a new job, running a business or improving a relationship. I have coached it all and it is a brilliant investment that lasts along time.

My name is Rachel Saunders, and I am the creative
director for Random Acts, which basically means I am the centre of creative craziness on a daily basis. I have a deep down passion for all aspects of creativity, and one of the most satisfying elements of my work is to see people
enjoying the fruits of my work.
I am also passionate about meeting and connecting with people, and this is one of the central parts of my job. I love being able to share ideas, thoughts, and the myriad of wonderful things that pass though my life with others, and in turn I also was strive to learn from them new ideas and world views. Indeed, it is one of my personal beliefs that you have to look at the other person's map of the world to learn and engage.
Finally, I am very outgoing person, so if anyone needs help, advice, or support then I am always there for them. Whether it be business or personal I believe strongly that being there for someone is an important part of who I am.

Claire Young - Elegant Venues
Self proclaimed chatter box Claire Young prides herself on great communication skills.
She even impressed Sir Alan Sugar with her presentations! Gaining nicknames such as the Motor Mouth and Rottweiler Claire is animated, confident and always deliv-ers to her audience. 30 years old she has worked for brand leaders in marketing, sales and retail before embarking on The Apprentice and has quickly become a regu-lar on the speaking circuit.
Claire says, "The Apprentice was an amazing experience. It really is the hardest 12 weeks of business boot camp which pushes and stretches you in every way! It's a great learning platform where you can seriously test yourself. It's been tough, chal-lenging and for me life changing. It's a real life rollercoaster. Would I do it all again? Of course I would, I've loved every minute. I feel that I have now got all the pieces of my jigsaw together and I'm ready for anything".

My name is Anne Jones and I moved up to York two years' ago. I realised I was in a rut and was in need of change in surroundings, and job! York is a beautiful city that I now regard as home.
About ten years' ago, I was a generalist advice volunteer at a charitable organisation. I advised a range of clients from those on low incomes to professional people. On three occasions, I assisted three professional people (one a merchant banker) since they all had multiple debts. They wanted someone to write and negotiate with their creditors; they wanted practical debt assistance.
Ten years' on, and in the midst of a recession, there is still very little practical debt assistance for professional people. As a result, I set up York Debt Solutions. It is not always necessary (or the best solution) to opt for IVA or bankruptcy to deal with personal debt.
